The Travelling Cat Chronicles and The Goodbye Cat

This elegant double-volume hardback brings together two of Hiro Arikawa’s most celebrated works, offering readers a journey through the changing landscapes of Japan and the inner lives of its feline inhabitants. We follow a devoted cat and his owner on a road trip across the countryside, alongside seven distinct cats who weave their way into the lives of their human companions. Together, these stories form a tapestry of connection, mapping out the small but monumental ways animals shape our world.

Arikawa’s storytelling is remarkable for its gentle, understated humor and its ability to capture the unique perspective of cats without slipping into sentimentality. The prose carries a quiet, rhythmic beauty that mirrors the steady pace of a feline companion. This special edition elevates the experience with stunning new cover art, balancing heartbreaking emotional depth with a profound sense of hope and celebrating the cycle of life with rare grace.

This gorgeous volume is an essential addition for anyone who has ever loved a pet, as well as readers of contemporary Japanese translation. Its exquisite design makes it an ideal keepsake gift for those who appreciate comforting, slice-of-life fiction that promises to touch the heart.
